Half-light

In the half-morning light
she wakes
eyes glued shut with the remains
of evening’s tears
Sounds and pictures in her mind
call softly, cruelly
beseeching her to enter again
the world of dreams
In the half-evening light
she watches
eyes wide with the brittle ends
of today’s cares
Half-heard conversations and alleyway scenes
beckon, headlong, crazy,
inviting her to join once more
the dusk charade
